CF Walk-A-Thon - May 4, 2008

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CF) held a Walk-A-Thon at Osbornedale State Park in Derby to raise funds for research.  Derby OEM and GBARC members were stationed along the route to observe and report the progress of the participant walkers and to also report if any incident occurred which required attention e.g. sprained ankle, etc.

The event was handled by the hams as if it were a disaster incident.  Deployment assignments and a frequency plan were issued at the start and the volunteers were dispersed to their assigned stations.  They communicated with the Net Control at the Command Center on VHF simplex.  This was the first time that ham radio volunteers participated in this particular event.

GBARC fielded (15) fifteen ham operators.  All were fed a sumptuous breakfast by Derby OEM.
