Stratford Communication Test - July 11, 2008

The town of Stratford requested that GBARC test radio communications capability between the EOC located in the main firehouse and outlying strategic points in the town.  The tests were conducted using amateur radio VHF simplex.  Two Derby OEM mobile communication units were stationed at the EOC.  A temporary VHF setup was located in the building and an antenna was extended from a second story window.  The three "base stations" allowed us to test various antenna setups in a number of different locations at the EOC.

GBARC members were dispatched to four strategic locations.  Both hand-held and mobile transceivers were used at these locations in order to assess antenna and RF power requirements.  It was determined that intervening terrain would make communications marginal to some locations unless the EOC antenna was situated on the roof of the building.
